TOMOKO YAMAMOTO

Tomoko Yamamoto is a Tokyo born artist. She received her B.A. Degree from Sophia University, Tokyo Japan and completed her M.A. Degree in Social Sciences at the University of Chicago in 1991.

Her Early Days;

She learned Ikebana (the art of Japanese flower arrangement) and Chanoyu ( Japanese Tea Ceremony) under the tutelage of an artist of Flower Arrangement - Keisetsu Yamasaki and a Tea Master, Souei Yamasaki from 1977 through 1985.Learning those traditional Japanese arts has given a great influence on her aesthetics ever since. It is undeniable that this experience leads finely on to painting flowers in which she presently engages herself.

Book Publishing;

In 2003, she published a book, “PIZZA & BEADS- Essays on Comparative Culture; Japan and USA“ under the name of Tomoko Oka – her pen name. The book is written in Japanese while there is an eight page section in English at the end of the book called “Introduction and Content summery” and “Acknowledgements”. The first section explains that the book compares life in the US to that of Japan in four essays. She draws from her experience of living in the Midwest and visiting in New York to make comparisons between Japanese and American education and culture.

Interaction with Dr. Jun Imamura;

She started oil and acrylic paintings in 2008 under the tutelage of an artist of Western-style Painting - Jun Imamura.Since 2013, she has exhibited her works in France-Japan Multinational Art Exhibition held at the National Art Center in Tokyo during the month of August every year. She won France-Japan Award and THE WINDOW OF ARTS (ART collectors’ monthly magazine) Award in 2015 in the France-Japan Multinational Art Exhibition.
Her works were also exhibited in Japanese Today’s Visual Arts Exhibitions which were held in Belgium, Holland, Italy and France from 2015.Further, her works were presented in the Paris International Art Exhibition autumn in 2015 and 2016.
In 2017 and 2018, she exhibited her works in SALON D’AUTOMNE (2017/10 and 2018/10, GRAND PALAIS DES CHAMPS ĒLYSĒES) and the 228th LE SALON (2018/2, GRAND PALAIS DES CHAMPS ĒLYSĒES).

Tomoko held her first solo exhibition in October 2018, at Fujiya Gallery. ( 2-6-5 Ginza Chuo-ku, Tokyo )
In October (2019), she had the solo exhibition at Gallery Le ciel bleu.(2-8-8 Jiyugaoka Meguro-ku, Tokyo)
The “Window of Art” introduced her work in its December issue.

In addition, her paintings in Paris for the 32nd Salon International de Paris were displayed from February 7 through 10 at Galerie du Marais.
(21 place des Vosges 75003 Paris).

Her works were exhibited in the 17th NAU Exhibition 2019 at the National Art Center in Tokyo in February.
In April 2019, she exhibited her work in the New Artist Unit Exhibition in NY. (The Nippon Gallery Nippon Club, 145 West 57th Street, New York, NY)

In May 2019, her works went on show in the 51st Japanese Today’s Visual Arts Exhibition in Alajarvi Finland

In October 2019, her work was exhibited in the 116th SALON D’AUTOMNE(GRAND PALAIS DES CHAMPS ĒLYSĒES).

In August 2020, her works were exhibited in the 21st The France-Japan Multinational Art Exhibition, Solo Category (Tokyo, Roppongi, 2020).

Her works were exhibited in the 34th Salon International de Paris. (2021/4/22〜4/25)
